With a tech-savvy career spanning over ten years, it is hard to imagine Silvia Doomra as anything other than an Information Technology expert. As a young girl from a small town located in India, her mother wanted her to fit into society’s norms and become a doctor or a teacher. However, Silvia, who had always loved mathematics, wanted to be an engineer. Luckily for her, her father supported her in her decision and worked hard to ensure she had the best education. Her determination paid off when Silvia scored a spot at Punjab Engineering College, one of the best engineering colleges in India.
Once she completed her Bachelor’s in Engineering, Silvia got her first job as a Software Development Engineer at Microsoft. With her growing track record of high performance and exceeding commitment ratings, she soon traded that position to become a Senior Program Manager for Microsoft.
While working as a manager, she focused on the Elastic Scale used by the company. To put it simply, Elastic Scale is the set of technologies used to scale the database to meet customer needs. Her hard work paid off when Microsoft became the first to launch its database libraries as open source in the SQL Azure organization. Silvia credits her entire team for this achievement. They worked from the ground up, from a simple plan to launching the open-source project in the market.
While working with Microsoft, Silvia has helped launch several products. These products include Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8 and 8.1, and Windows 10, all Windows phones released in 2014, as well as Windows Tablets.
One of Silvia’s most notable achievements is the creation of the Data Residency Program, which helped Microsoft users meet the data requirements they needed to do business in their regions. This project manifests the best of her talent, which went into the building from the beginning. With hard work and persistence, Silvia’s dream (Data Residency program) became a reality.
During her career, Silvia had begun to notice the lack of importance given to the private and personal information of the customers. Her next goal is to raise awareness about the importance of data privacy and security. She has already introduced several guidelines and built systems that enable companies to present and update data security regulations seamlessly. Alongside this, she has created various tools to help companies protect their customer’s privacy and ensure their data remains safe and secure.
Silvia believes that there is still much to be done concerning the digital privacy sector. Her goal is to make companies and organizations realize the importance of data security and solve digital privacy challenges strategically and efficiently.
