We are all the sum of our choices. If we rummage through biographies of the world’s leading personalities and converse with highly successful people, we will find one commonality between them all – they’ve all made some hard choices in life. Each of them has made hard sacrifices in order to gain something, a reward with a cost. But are we willing to make those sacrifices? Highly doubtful. An accomplished entrepreneur and influencer, Mo Shaikh has something to say about this.
“You can’t expect to win something if you are not willing to let go of something most likely precious to you,” he says. “I’m talking from my experience. Sacrifice is for sure arduous, but in the long run, it’s worth it.”
Coming from someone like Mo, these words cannot be discarded easily. He stands as a practical example of a success born out of sacrifice, of going the other way around instead of sticking to conventions.
Mo’s upbringing was carried out in an immigrant family struggling to meet its needs. The responsibility to manage the finances and earn for the family rested upon Mo’s parents until he and his siblings came to an age where they were legally allowed to work. They then helped with the bills, and that’s how life progressed for the family.
However, Mo came to face an impasse when he graduated high school and was all set to head to college… until he wasn’t. He had two ways to proceed in the future: either go to college in pursuit of higher education or work full-time at a retail location. If tradition was anything to go by, the former would be preferred by almost everyone. After all, what could a 19 year old possibly achieve working at a store?
But Mo surprised everyone when he chose the latter and forwent studies in order to earn some capital and gain industry knowledge. It is important to mention that this choice wasn’t made out of compulsion but out of the passion for exploring the ‘real world and getting some experience on the ground’. Many doubted the outcome of his choice, but they were unaware of the dreams that had been brewing in Mo’s mind for so long and how he was setting off to fulfill them.
He worked diligently at the cellular store and learned a plethora of useful information about the business: clients and capital management, customer satisfaction, service delivery, investments, savings, and a number of other things. Besides working at the store, Mo kept his coffers swelling with savings, and then the day came when the savings were to be put in the right place. Mo offered the owner to buy the store, who happily signed the deal.
In a short span of time, Mo grew his cellular business, Cell ER, to an unexpected level. And now here we are, writing and reading about this man who has perfectly demonstrated how one choice can upend your life once and for all.
