The topic of sex is infamously attacked by social values, religious limitations, and moral taboos. According to researchers, sex has always been such a problem since ancient times because it covertly reminds humans of their animalistic nature. In addition to that, a woman’s sensuality is a topic just as frowned upon.
Leading Intimacy Coach and Female Embodiment Leader, Amanda Biccum highlights the disaster these taboos have caused to the lives of the women of today. Women are raised to follow a value system that negates their innate desires and tells them how they should act as women (esp. in relationships and in the bedroom). . As a result, they are not taught how to listen to their bodies, often socially conditioned to hate their bodies, and due to the lack of positive sexual education, they refrain from discovering their bodies on their own, giving their pleasure away to unfulfilling sexual encounters. The pressures are endless and result in countless unfulfilled women with deep-rooted insecurities.
Amanda is the founder of The Embodied Empire, a global sisterhood online community that aims to enlighten and empower women. Describing her work, Amanda says, “The majority of my work is about helping the individual learn how to source their pleasure from within. I have several online programs that teach women how to set boundaries, connect to their menstruation cycles, and their bodies through self-pleasure practices, polarity work, and more. A large portion of my work has to do with helping women change their viewpoint from the idea that sexuality is taboo something that is not to be talked about to something deeply sacred and a profound connection point for deeper intimacy”
Growing up, Amanda never experienced healthy relationships. Her parents divorced and remarried several times. “I remember as I was growing up, my mother would often say to me “Who needs a man?” She was fiercely independent, strong, I honor and value her so much for that, but at the same time, I also saw the pain in that statement. While yes, it is true you do not need a man, and it’s great that belief was instilled within me as it taught me to be independent and strong, at the same time relationships are how we as humans thrive. We are meant to be in connection with each other and support each other in various ways.”
Relationships and intimacy are crucial for the wellbeing of a human, and both are interlinked. To build passionate, fulfilling, and lasting relationships, it is vital for women to learn about their bodies, sensuality, and desires. A well-aware woman is perhaps the most confident and magnetic for truly passionate relationships.
And that can only be accomplished when such meaningless taboos are thwarted, and conscious feminine embodiment is practiced.
