Makeba White Chanay, BusinesVisionary and Consultant, Shares How Vulnerability Can Lead To Authenticity and Strength

It is easy to discard vulnerability as a weakness, whereas to be human is to be vulnerable. Only when we can understand our vulnerabilities and embrace them can we begin to empathize with and ultimately support each other in a collective quest for a better future. So explains Makeba White Chanay, sharing how vulnerability can lead to authenticity, innovation, and strength.

As the founder and CEO of B1 Ventures & Holdings, Inc., Makeba is a pioneer in the caregiving industry. The three entities under the banner of her business aim to reach out to the vulnerable and care for them by redefining the often problematic interpretations of vulnerability resulting in inadequate social interactions.

The first entity, B1 Nursing Care, is a home care service provider specializing in providing customized care for the elderly and disabled in the comfort of their homes.  They guarantee the utmost satisfaction to the clients by educating them and their families with constant communication. In addition, their services include light housekeeping, errands, meal preparation, and assistance with daily living (ADL).

B1’s Mississippi School of Health Services & Careers offers certificate programs in the Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Medical Billing & Coding, Phlebotomy, and CPR. It also provides certificates and CEUs in COVID-19 and Community Healthcare Worker Training. By delivering educational opportunities to students and guiding them on career paths, ensuring their success.

Since Makeba believes everyone deserves a chance at education, the B1 Ventures & Holdings is dedicated to supporting students through scholarships and providing opportunities for the unhoused population of the community through their non-profit 501c3, B1 Foundation.

Born and raised in Forest, Mississippi, Makeba dreamt of becoming an entrepreneur, influenced by witnessing her grandfather, who was a farmer and contracted with Tyson Foods. Despite the hurdles, Makeba refused to settle and never gave up on her dreams which she was finally able to turn into reality with the help of her faith in God, the support of her family, and her philosophy of learning to transform her struggles into strengths.

As a woman belonging to a minority, Makeba knows what it feels like to be vulnerable. But with perseverance, she was able to take lessons from her hardships by facing her challenges rather than seeking to escape them. Along her journey, she aspired to be a source of comfort to those in need using her entrepreneurial skills.

As a result, she is recognized and celebrated as a business visionary and community leader, honored by the 2022 People’s Choice Award as the Best of Mississippi through their favorite nonprofit organization. Admired for her struggle to facilitate the vulnerable and empower them, she has received several awards like her inclusion in the 2021 Who’s Who in Mississippi Women and the Top 50 Leading Women in Business for the State of Mississippi in 2019.

Check out HER Philosophy to follow Makeba’s life journey inspiring others to reconceive their vulnerabilities and find strengths in what they see as weaknesses.
