Diethylene glycol contaminated beer, four people dead: the product to avoid

It is an alarm for antifreeze beer which has already recorded 22 cases of suspected poisoning, including four fatal. It happens in Brazil where the Food Safety News talks about a drink contaminated with diethylene glycol. The chemical has been identified in 32 lots of 10 different Backer brand beers: Belorizontina, Capixaba, Capitão Senra, Pele Vermelha, Fargo 46, Backer Pilsen, Brown, Backer D2, Corleone and Backer Trigo. The presence of ethylene glycol has also been ascertained in some batches of Blorizontina. Read also: Red wine, Bonarda withdrawn for adulteration: withdrawal is triggered, here is the product to avoid The tests, carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, confirmed the contamination of the water used in the production of beer, which would have occurred between mid-November 2019 and early December. As a precaution, the Brazilian Health Surveillance Agency has ordered the stop all the country of the sale of all Backer beers expiring from August 2020 onwards and the closure of the production plant, until the company will be able to guarantee the absence of contaminants. In the meantime, the health authorities are recommending citizens not to consume the offending product.
