Slipknot Drummer Shake-Up: Jay Weinberg Bids Farewell To The Metal Stage

In a seismic shift for heavy metal aficionados, Slipknot, the Grammy-winning powerhouse, is undergoing a transformation in its rhythmic core. The band recently revealed on its official website that drummer Jay Weinberg is parting ways with the group. He stepped into the formidable shoes of original drummer Joey Jordison in 2013.

Expressing gratitude for Weinberg’s decade-long dedication and passion. Slipknot acknowledged the irreplaceable imprint left by Jordison’s “original sound, style, or energy.” The band’s statement reads, “No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style, or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums, and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it.

While the circumstances surrounding Weinberg’s departure remain undisclosed, Slipknot emphasized its commitment to evolution and creative decision-making. The band stated, “Slipknot is intent on evolving,” highlighting the departure as a significant step. This marks a new chapter in the band’s musical journey. The statement concluded with well-wishes for Weinberg and an expression of excitement for what the future holds.

Notably, Slipknot fans were treated to Weinberg’s drumming prowess during his “last show of 2023” at the Hell & Heaven Metal Fest in Toluca, Mexico, as revealed in his recent Instagram post. Reflecting on the year, Weinberg shared, “What a year 2023 has been. Great way to cap off an amazing year of memorable shows.”

Jay Weinberg, son of renowned Bruce Springsteen drummer Max Weinberg, joined Slipknot in December 2013, bringing a wealth of experience from his time with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Against Me!, Kvelertak, and Madball.

Weinberg made his official debut with Slipknot on their fifth album, “.5: The Gray Chapter,” in 2014. His drumming skills were on full display in this album, which got the band three Grammy nominations. They were recognized in categories like Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Album.

Weinberg continued to leave his mark on Slipknot’s subsequent releases. He contributed to the critically acclaimed albums “We Are Not Your Kind” in 2019 and “The End, So Far” in 2022. Both albums secured the top spot on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart, solidifying Slipknot’s enduring influence in the heavy metal genre.

The heavy metal world is shocked by Jay Weinberg leaving Slipknot. It’s the start of a new era for the Grammy-winning band. Jay’s been drumming for a decade, following in the footsteps of Joey Jordison, and he’s had a huge impact on the band’s growth. Slipknot’s official statement shows they’re focused on trying new things and changing. They’re heading towards new music and unexplored places.
