Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller, widely known as Vonnie, found himself at the center of a tumultuous event when he turned himself in to the Glenn Heights Police Department in the Dallas area. The surrender followed the issuance of an arrest warrant on allegations of assaulting a pregnant woman during a “major disturbance” on the 3100 block of North Harwood Street in Dallas.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at 11 a.m., as detailed in a statement from the Dallas police. According to their report, Miller, a 34-year-old former Super Bowl MVP, engaged in a verbal argument with the victim, leading to the alleged assault. However, by the time officers arrived at the scene, Miller had left, and the victim was treated for minor injuries.
The arrest warrant was issued on a charge of assault against a pregnant person, marking a serious legal situation for the accomplished American football linebacker. Miller later turned himself in at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Glenn Heights Police Department, located approximately 15 miles south of Dallas. Subsequently, he posted bail and was released from custody, according to Glenn Heights Police Chief Nick Bristow.
Notably, Miller, his attorney, and agents have yet to respond to messages seeking comment, leaving the public and media speculating about the unfolding situation.
The police affidavit accompanying the warrant sheds light on the nature of Miller’s relationship with the victim, indicating a seven-year romantic involvement and shared children. The document outlines an argument between Miller and the woman, who, refusing to travel on her birthday, prompted Miller’s anger.
The situation escalated as Miller allegedly pushed the pregnant woman out of the apartment, stepping on her foot and discarding her belongings in the process. Shockingly, he reportedly pulled her hair, causing her to fall, and even placed his hands around her neck, inflicting pain.
The victim threatened to call the police, prompting Miller to leave the scene. The affidavit mentions that the woman disclosed she was six weeks pregnant during the harrowing incident.
Despite achieving victory in the Super Bowl in 2016 as a playmaker with the Denver Broncos, people have continued talking about him due to his skillful playing style. Nonetheless, there are some worries about his honesty after his recent out-of-pitch scandal. However, Miller who was an aging 29-year-old American player in the football field of DeSoto – a small town near Dallas his second season working with the Buffalo Bills during holidays last year.
Upon hearing of what happened, the Buffalo Bills made an announcement to the public that they knew about it. One of their representatives stated that, for now, they are collecting more knowledge before making additional revelations in this initial stage of investigation.
Interestingly, it also adds to discussions about domestic violence charge and NFL players. However, over the last couple of years, specifically after the Case of Ray Rice—a running back for the Baltimore Ravens who had beaten his fiancée—the league of NFL has received serious attacks. The NFL currently suspends players for up to six games without criminal conviction for the offense of domestic violence. The harsh stand is intended to quell issues regarding lack of action against players causing problems away from the pitch.
